This is just a quick update on where the Boston PWHL team roster stands.
Currently the team has 18 roster spots out of 28 filled. Current names are:
Emma Söderberg G
Taylor Girard F
Emily Brown D
Theresa Schafzahl F
Jessica DiGirolamo D
Hannah Brandt F
Loren Gabel F
Jamie-Lee Rattray F
Sophie Jaques D
Alina Müller F
Sophie Shirley F
Shiann Darkangelo F
Emma Buckles D
Tatum Skaggs F
Jess Healey D
These are added to the three free-agency signings that have already happened: Aerin Frankel G, Megan Keller D and Hilary Knight F.
That fills 18 of the 28 slots available for the November training camps where teams will trim the rosters back to 23 before the season itself begins, so expect more signings.
Fans were left reeling though, after local fixture Jilian Dempsey was taken by Montreal and many other former Boston Pride players were left undrafted including speedy star Allie Thunstrom and former PHF defender of the year Kaliegh Fratkin.
The team itself remains without a name and logo, but a sharp eyed local hockey artist and influencer noticed these colors adorning the team tweets at the draft, including green for Boston.
If Boston’s new National Women’s Soccer Team sticks to their current neon green and gray, that will bring the total of Boston pro teams with green as their major color to three!
Of the former PHF players who played for the Boston Pride, only Loren Gabel was re-signed. 10 roster spots remain and of course we can’t help but want to see some more familiar faces.
It also remains to be seen if undrafted players will find their likely closer-to-minimum salaries of $35,000 USD enough to make a move financially feasible.
No matter who ends up in Boston, we are excited to see what the new season brings and will keep pushing for all players to get the living wages they deserve.
